The Fifth Vial

Revelation 16:10-11 – And the fifth messenger did pour out his vial upon the throne of the beast, and his kingdom did become darkened, and they were gnawing their tongues from the pain, and they did speak evil of the God of the heaven, from their pains, and from their sores, and they did not reform from their works. (YLT)

First of all, what is the throne of the beast John is referring to? For a hint, see an earlier Revelation passage:

Revelation 2:12-13 – And to the messenger of the assembly in Pergamos write: These things saith he who is having the sharp two-wedged sword: I have known thy works, and where thou dost dwell – where the throne of the Adversary [is] – and thou dost hold fast my name, and thou didst not deny my faith, even in the days in which Antipas [was] my faithful witness, who was put to death beside you, where the Adversary doth dwell. (YLT)

This passage mentions the throne of Satan in Pergamos. This is referring to the Pergamon Altar in Pergamos, Cyprus, which is nicknamed “Satan’s throne.” This structure was constructed in the early 2nd century to honor the Greek god Asclepius, the god of healing and medicine. It is still there today (see picture below).

This tells us that the fifth vial has something to do with medicine. On September 30, 2004, a drug named Rofecoxib (Vioxx) was withdrawn from the market, due to side effects of heart attacks and strokes. The drug was a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID, like Ibuprofen) used to treat pain and osteoarthritis. Over 80 million people used this drug worldwide. This fits John’s description of the fifth vial.

The Sixth Vial

Revelation 16:12 – And the sixth messenger did pour out his vial upon the great river, the Euphrates, and dried up was its water, that the way of the kings who are from the rising of the sun may be made ready; (YLT)

I can think of no event that matches this description better than Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 storm that struck New Orleans, Louisiana on August 29, 2005. It killed more than 1,800 people and did at least $81 billion USD in damage. 80% of the city flooded and the water level hit as high as 20 feet. Katrina means “blessing, pure, or holy,” and therefore it makes sense that this hurricane was a judgment of purification. Even the governor of Louisiana at the time was Kathleen Blanco, who’s name means “pure white.” New Orleans was known for Mardi Gras, witchcraft, and voodoo, and God was judging the city for it.

Revelation 16:13-14 – and I saw [come] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs – for they are spirits of demons, doing signs – which go forth unto the kings of the earth, and of the whole world, to bring them together to the battle of that great day of God the Almighty; -- (YLT)

Another part of the sixth vial is the three frogs mentioned in the passage above. The three frogs are three false religions that lead Christians astray. The main three false religions at this time are Zionism, Evangelicalism, and Islam. Zionism is a Jewish movement that supports the killing of non-Jewish people such as Palestinians and Muslims. The war in the Middle East feeds from the self-preservation and hate of people who think they are doing God’s work, but actually fall under Zionism instead of Christianity. Next is Evangelicalism. This is a branch of Christianity that as went astray. It focuses so much on salvation, that it forgets about the purification of enemies. Many Christians fall prey to this trap. We need to pray for our enemies, not judge them. The third frog is Islam, under the false prophet Osama bin Laden. Osama bin Laden has tricked many people into thinking that the world needs to be deconstructed before it can be reconstructed. Luckily, Osama’s recent death signals an end of this age.
