Existence of God
The Ekpyrotic Scernario
This is yet another PBBM in which our four dimensional universe is only a part of a bigger universe with more dimensions. There are many versions of this theory. Perhaps the most recent was in 2002, when Steinhardt and Turok proposed that our universe lies on one of two membranes which are parallel to each other. These membranes have been colliding and moving apart forever. They suggest that the big bang was one of these collisions. However, this scenario again fails to explain the BVG Theorem. It must have began somewhere.
Teleological Argument
Now let’s get into the teleological argument for the existence of God. This argument uses the facts that our universe is so complex and precise that it had to be done by an intelligent designer or being. This being is God. We will begin this argument with the Penrose Number.
The Penrose Number
In 1989, Robert Penrose came up with the odds of an anthropic universe developing from the Big Bang. An anthropic universe is a universe having enough intrinsic orderliness to sustain a life form. As I mentioned earlier it is 1 in 1010^123. What does this mean?
103 is one thousand
106 is one million
109 is one billiion
10123 is called one quadragintillion
1010^9 is a one with one billion zeros behind it
1010^123 is a one with one quadragintillion zeros behind it
To give you an idea of how large this number is, it is greater than the number of particles (including protons and neutrons) in the universe. The odds of the Big Bang producing our known universe by chance are EXTREMELY LOW to say the least. Some may argue that the Big Bang had many “tries” to produce our universe. However, this is actually a small amount because our universe is only 13.7 billion years old. The number of tries can actually be calculated: 13.7 billion years x 365 days x 24 hours x 60 minutes x 60 seconds x 1043 (Planck era) x 1053 kg of visible mass x 108 (reduction to minimum units of mass) = 10120 total possibilities. This is a one with only 120 zeros behind it verses one quadragintillion zeros. Instead of random chance, it is much more likely that an intelligent designer was behind this, that being God.
